James Madison University is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. On May of 2023, the JMU Global Medical Brigade team will be traveling to Honduras to help support remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras.

Dear Reader,

My name is Elena Ogbe, a first-generation Eritrean-American with a major in Nursing and a minor in Honors Interdisciplinary. I would like to take the time to share who I am and my aspirations as I need your help! Currently, I am involved in the organization Global Medical Brigades which is a 501c nonprofit organization that connects people in developing nations to healthcare through the establishment of clinics, facilities, and resources. And we, as JMU students, would like to reach our mission to send 40 undergraduate students to Honduras to volunteer in the community and serve the people of Honduras.

So a little bit about myself, and why this has anything to do with you. As a future nurse who strives to provide equitable care for all patients, taking the time to become more culturally aware is important to me. My goals include being able to influence individuals in the healthcare field to engage in critical self-reflection and to have a heightened awareness of worldviews. In addition, I would like to gain a deeper understanding of how medical personnel can expand on levels of intercultural competency. However, in order to do this, I need to build experience myself. This volunteer mission would become the pillar of my professional philosophy, as it would allow me to understand the contextual influences that impact our thinking regarding patient care. Subsequently, by learning how to become a more compassionate and self-reflective individual I will be able to expand my global framework and have the ability to share this information with others.

Lastly, since Global Medical Brigades is a newer organization starting from the ground up, it needs support to make this program possible. Each member needs to raise $1500 plus airfare, so if possible, I would like to ask if you would consider offering your support. If it's ten, five, or even a single dollar, it would help tremendously and mean the world! I would also like to mention that all donations are Tax Deductible. Then continue to select "Donate" exactly where "Contribute" was before

Step 3:

You should now be taken to a new page that states "Donate to James Madison Medical Brigade May 2023 Honduras":

Under "Destination" click on "Make a donation on behalf of a volunteer"
Click "Select Volunteer"
Then, the name "Elena Ogbe" should appear at the beginning of the list
After, please enter desired amount you wish to donate and entire following information needed
If prefered, you are allowed to make an anonymous donation if you select that box which is located at bottom of the page.
